Tagger gets 26 years in deadly attack

VICTORVILLE – A man who shot two people – killing a 65-year-old grandmother – during a confrontation over tagging at a Hesperia residence in 2007 was sentenced Wednesday to 26 years in state prison.

Ricardo David Real, now 22, appeared before Judge John Tomberlin in Victorville Superior Court for sentencing under the terms of a plea bargain reached July 6.

Under the agreement, Real pleaded guilty to one count of voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of 65-year-old Seutatia Tausili, whose grandson Vaovasa Penu was wounded.

Additionally, Real admitted to sentence enhancements for using a gun and for benefiting a street gang, said Deputy District Attorney Mari Braun.

In the courtroom, family members of the victims read statements to the judge about how the crimes have impacted their lives.

Tustin-based lawyer Paul Wallin said his client is a humble individual who is truly remorseful about his actions.
