The punishment you will receive if you are convicted of driving on a suspended license (CVC14601) will depend in great part on why your license is suspended. You will receive the most serious punishment, including mandatory jail time if the reason your license was suspended is due to a drunk driving conviction. IF your license was suspended for any other reason then jail time is not mandatory for a first offense. However, if you have prior convictions for driving on a suspended license you will be facing the real possibility of jail time. In addition to this punishment the police officer has the legal authority to impound your vehicle for up to 30 days and there is a substantial cost for you to retrieve the vehicle after the 30 day period.
