Why Is Everyone So Quick To Rush To Judgment And Assume He Is Guilty Before The First Court Hearing?
In this country when you are accused of a sex crime, you are entitled to the presumption of innocence. People are wrongfully accused of crimes every day. However, it seems that when you are accused of anything related to possible sex offenses that presumption goes away in the eyes of the media and the public.
In this case Carlos Bustamante is being accused of having committed sex offenses against four alleged victims. However, it is reported in the Orange County Register that two of the alleged victims deny that the sexual abuse occurred. One of the alleged victims went so far as to tell authorities that the sexual acts could not have occurred in the workplace.
It was also quoted in the OC Register article that Supervisor Moorlach stated that in the future ‘this’ can never happen again. What is ‘this’. How can an intelligent person ‘assume’ that a person is guilty just because they have been arrested.
Does anyone realize what long term damage this does to the family of the accused if in fact this turns out to be false allegations?
