Two Teens Brag to News Reporter About Robbing Girls Scout, Convicted for Petty Theft

We’ve all seen the hordes of Girl Scouts outside our local grocery store peddling their delicious cookies. Odds are, none of us have ever thought of robbing them. But two teenage girls not only committed a juvenile crime by robbing a 9-year-old girl scout, they bragged about it to a local news reporter on camera who showed up to cover the story.

As hard as it is to believe, if you follow the link you will be able to see the actual video of the newscast where the teens not only admit that they robbed a little girl, they seem to think that it’s no big deal.

Their theft defense attorney clearly thought it was a big deal, as the video was used as evidence in a slam dunk case that ended up with both girls being convicted of petty theft.

In total, the girls made off with 6, that the split evenly between the two of them.

In California, petty theft is considered a misdemeanor and carries with it a punishment of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. While both girls have been found guilty, no reports on what their sentencing was. Both girls also admitted on camera that they had a prior record. Depending on what those charges were, the girls could have potentially been charged with a felony and faced up to three years in county jail.

As criminal defense attorneys, we always advise our clients to not speak to police under any circumstances until they have spoken with us first. After seeing this story, we may have to remind them not to seek out local reporters as well.
