Moreno Valley School Board Member Facing Life in Prison for Rape, Attempted Murder and Pimping

It seems as though there is one California sex crimes scandal after another at our public schools. The most prominent case follows the Miramonte Elementary school scandal in which two different teachers have been accused of lewd acts with a minor under 14. Then most recently, a teacher in Anaheim Hills was accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a high school student.

Today, a member of the Moreno Valley School Board is going to need a Riverside criminal defense attorney after being arrested on suspicion of rape and pimping. Mike Luis Rios, 42, was arrested yesterday on 11 felony charges including 2 counts of rape and 3 counts of pimping.
At this time, it is believed that none of Rios’ crimes were against students.

The investigation by the Riverside District Attorneys’ Office says that Rios promised the use of a vehicle and the promise of a job on the school board in order to lure women to work for him as a prostitute.

According to the DA, Rios has another case pending against him stemming from an incident in February. In that incident, Rios is charged with two counts of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon for shooting at two individuals outside his home.

Rios would likely face a life sentence in state prison if found guilty on all counts. The two rape charges would both count as strikes under California’s 3 strike laws. The two attempted murder charges and the two assault with a deadly weapon charges would also all be considered strikes.
