Lindsay Lohan Back in Court Two Months After Probation Violation

It’s easy to forget that being placed on probation isn’t a get out of jail free card. One slip can land you behind bars. Punishment for probation violations can vary, but depending on how good your criminal defense attorney is, often times it can lead to jail or prison.

Lindsay Lohan is an interesting case of what not to do when on probation, and more recently, is a shining example of what you should do if you are on probation.

It seems like ages ago that the actress was being chastised by Judge Stephanie Sautner for violating the terms of her probation.

Lohan had showed up late to her community service assignment at a battered women’s shelter and was asked not to return by the shelter. She was sentenced to 30 days, but only served a few hours due to overcrowding in LA County jails.

She was warned at that hearing that if she slipped up again, she would be sentenced to several months in jail.

Apparently the message got through to Lohan, as she spent the month of December performing all the terms of her probation right to the letter. It’s a sharp reversal in behavior for the former child actor, as Lohan has repeatedly failed to attend court ordered classes and has failed drug and alcohol tests from past run ins with the law.

Probation isn’t meant to be worked around your schedule, or done at your convenience. It’s supposed to be a punishment. But when the alternative is jail or prison, it’s a good idea to follow the terms of your probation with a smile on your face and realize how fortunate you are.
