San Francisco Archbishop Arrested On Allegations Of Driving Under Influence

The Roman Catholic archbishop-elect of San Francisco, the Rev. Salvatore Cordileone was taken into custody after being stopped in the early morning on August 25, at a checkpoint near the San Diego State campus, for a DUI. Cordileone was booked into San Diego County jail after being stopped and was released on a bond. He was ordered to appear in court Oct. 9.

A driving under the influence charge is codified under California Vehicle Code Section 23152.  It states in pertinent part “it is unlawful for any person who is under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug, or under the combined influence of any alcoholic beverage and drug, to drive a vehicle.  It is unlawful for any person who has 0.08 percent or more, by weight, of alcohol in his or her blood to drive a vehicle.”
