Man Facing Extended Prison Stay for Posting Criminal Threats on Girlfriend’s Facebook Page

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Social media is a great tool for staying connected with friends. It is also a great tool for police to arrest individuals for making criminal threats. That’s exactly what happened to Raul Reinoso (22) when he posted a message on his girlfriend’s Facebook page that he was going to take a hit out on her family.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Reinoso is on parole for armed robbery. Oh, and his girlfriend is only 15, so it appears as though he will be facing charges of unlawful sex with a minor.

The escapade started when the teenage girl’s family learned about her sexual relationship with Reinoso. The family logged onto their daughter’s Facebook page and sent Reinoso a message saying that he was not allowed to see their daughter anymore. Reinoso replied saying he was going to put a hit out on the entire family.

When arrested, Reinoso told police that he was on parole and that he had ties to a Los Angeles gang. Because Reinoso already had a strike on his record and because of his alleged gang affiliation, prosecutors will likely pursue a felony criminal threats charge, which would be a second strike.

Also, due to the 7 year gap between Reinoso and his teenage girlfriend, prosecutors likely won’t be looking to cut any deals in terms of the unlawful sex with a minor charge.

It will take nothing short of a miracle for Reinoso’s criminal defense attorney to keep him out of prison for several years. All because he popped up and posted a threatening message on his girlfriend’s Facebook page.
