Prep Star Sentenced to Prison

For actions that happened in June of this year in the County of Orange, a former Fairmont High School football player was sentenced on Friday to prison, for his contributions in the attempted robbery of a courier who was transporting marijuana.  Earle Austin, was given a 28 months in state prison term after pleading guilty to a felony count of attempted second-degree robbery.

Austin, along with James Yi, and Hwa Sung Sim, 20, and another man were all apparently involved in the crime. The other man, was shot and killed during this incident. Police have reported that a struggle ensued, with Kinh Dang, who was apparently armed with a handgun, approached the security guard, and the security guard fired several shots at Dang. Dang was hit and later died at the scene.

Yi and Sim have also pleaded guilty to felony counts of attempted second-degree robbery. Yi and Sim are scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 7.
