On May 16, 2011, former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted that fathered a child with a member of his household staff ten years ago. The news comes a week after Schwarzenegger and his wife Maria Shriver announced their separation.
Schwarzenegger and Shriver had been married for 25 years. Sources indicate that Shriver did not know of the child until recently, and that the child may have been a factor in their separation.
As the child’s father, Schwarzenegger has a duty to financially support the child, and reports indicate that he had been sending payments to the child’s mother.
As for what happens if Schwarzenegger and Shriver divorce, it is unknown whether they signed a prenuptial agreement, but it appear likely since they were both wealthy before entering the marriage.
