In the latest saga in the Lindsey Lohan felony theft case, her attorney notified the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office that the plea deal would be rejected. As such, the case moves one step closer to trial.
In California, felony grand theft is codified under Penal Code Section 487, which states that grand theft is the “unlawful taking of another’s property valued above $950.
In Lohan’s case, the actress is accused of taking a necklace from a Los Angeles area jewelry store. According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, the necklace is valued at $2500.
If convicted, Lohan may be sentenced to up to three years in California State Prison. Preliminary hearing on the case is currently set for April 22, 2011.
